Our Philosophy

Why should you choose Whitts End Ranch?

The horses we have at our ranch are horses that we know very well. I take time to get a good start or in some cases go back over what should have been done for solid fundamentals on all horses that come here.

I pride myself on using our horses in various situations, to give them a job they like. The horses I have are asked to track and rope cattle,  go around barrels and other games. They are used out in the pasture for checking fence, moving horses and cattle, ponying, and flagging other horses. They will get exposed to pheasants  flying from underneath them. Long trotting down miles of gravel road. Going out to events for days at a time being stalled with other unfamiliar horses and all kinds of situations they can not been exposed to at home.

They are asked to be tied up before and after being ridden. They will stand tied with other horses, by themselves and inside the trailer so that whatever you want to with a horse they are prepared for it.

At Whitts End Ranch you will not be pressured into buying a horse. You will be given honest statements about each horse and how you might get along with that horse.  My goal is to fit the right horse with right rider, not to just make a sale. I know my horses well, they are part of my family. I have respect for the horses to go to the right homes.

It is a matter of choices - pay for something nice now and have a great experience or get by with something for cheap and hope things do not turn out bad

What is a good experience worth to you?

Brian K. Whittaker  has over 25 years  experience in the horse business.  Brian along with being a competitive roper and steer wrestler in rodeos and jackpots is also a  farrier, a graduate of MN school of Horseshoeing.  The goal of Whitts End Ranch training program is to have a supple, responsive, and willing horse that you can enjoy in the arena and out on the trails. I will work with a horse to have respect on the ground and once this is accomplished will ask for the same while being ridden. This is accomplished by using techniques with the correct timing and feel that a horse can understand.   Cattle work is also a fundamental piece of the training program.

"Student of the best teacher there is, the Horse"

Located 40 miles west of the Twin Cities in New Germany, MN near the town of Winsted, home of "Winstock" a popular annual Country Music Festival. We are less then an hour from the Minneapolis airport and less then 30 minutes to the towns of Waconia, and Hutchinson. There are several parks that have groomed horse trails less than 30 minutes from our door.

I also have a  place set up for horses in Casa Grande, AZ.
